Delta and VolkerWessels close a deal with Heerema Marine Contractors for office redevelopment in Leiden

Today Delta, VolkerWessels and Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) have reached an agreement for the redevelopment of their former office building at 47 Vondellaan in Leiden. After the departure of HMC from this site due to lack of space in 2005 the building has been empty. It will now be demolished and in its place HMC’s new sustainable headquarters will be constructed there. The building is expected for delivery at the end of 2014.

The reason for the search for new premises was a result of the growth of the organisation. “We are very pleased that we found the possibility to remain in our existing property location. With this new step we can facilitate our expected future growth and offer our employees a work space fitting in these times.”, stated Jan-Pieter Klaver, CEO Heerema Marine Contractors.

The municipality of Leiden is also pleased with Heerema’s decision. Alderman Pieter van Woensel (Town planning): “It is fantastic that a large international concern chooses Leiden.”

Delta was selected for their efficient, modest yet appropriate design incorporating ‘het nieuwe werken’ (new way of working). It was also chosen because of it being a sustainable solution as a redevelopment for an existing location. “This project fits perfectly with Delta’s philosophy whereby sustainable redevelopment is fundamental. Our experience from other redevelopment projects, often in partnership with VolkerWessels is invaluable here,” stated Coert Zachariasse CEO Delta Development Group.

The office will be constructed by Wessels Zeist, the basis for the design has been made by OPL Architecten in Utrecht.
