The material bank of the future

Head office Bluewater

With the development and realisation of Bluewater Energy Services headquarters, Delta has optimized the Cradle to Cradle principle further still. This impressive property is part of the second building phase of Park 20|20 and is made up of the largest possible volume of Cradle to Cradle Certified ™ materials. In this, it exceeds all comparable on Park 20|20.

  • At the time of delivery, the largest collection of C2C certified materials worldwide in one building
  • BREEAM-NL Excellent
  • Consistent user satisfaction after 1 year> 95%

The lowest costs per M2

During the development of the Bluewater building, Delta Development, rather than focus on the required square meters, looked at the future function of the building; the way in which the organization, its people worked. By the application of Human Centered Design by McDonough + Partners, a surprisingly functional design with maximum use of every square meter was created. This translated into great savings: at this present time for example, the Bluewater building has the lowest cost per m2 at Park 20|20.

Cradle to Cradle as win win With the Bluewater building, Delta has made a next step in the Cradle to Cradle development process. A completely new supply chain was created for Bluewater that gave our suppliers the opportunity and space to use their know-how and innovation in the development of new Cradle to Cradle certified materials. This unique process reduced building costs and created improved building quality. The higher margins were then shared with the tenant and the material suppliers as an incentive for the continuous improvement of the Cradle to Cradle® principle.

Design for Disassembly

Like all the Cradle to Cradle buildings at Park 20|20, Bluewater’s building has also been designed to be broken down. After dismantling, the high quality materials are ready for use in new buildings or in other industrial applications. All used materials are Cradle to Cradle® certified and registered via a materials passport.

Design for Disassembly

  1. *
  1. The building consists of a full steel and concrete core and the C2C certified MOSA / AGC / ALCOA / ClickBrick façade designed for disassembly. A combination of BIM-modelling, a material passport and Cradle to Cradle-design technique enables you to define the type, quality and volume of materials, plus capture their method of deconstruction and value determination according to the definitions (biological versus technical resources) of the Circular Economy. The result is Delta’s most advanced approach to material banking. The façade is a detachable click system made in collaboration with Cradle to Cradle Certified MOSA tiles. At the end of the service period, the entire MOSA-façade system can be disassembled and returned to MOSA, where 100% of the tiles will be used to make new MOSA tiles, so that there is no waste.
